YA story, with a contrived competition to determine who will rule the interstellar empire (imagine using the Amazing Race to determine the US presidency). There's an obvious romance couple (which I didn't really need). There's a couple obvious bad guys. Captain Alyssa Farshot and her extraordinary engineer, Hell Monkey, are catapulted into a scavenger race for the crown against the other children of the ruling elite. Decent space opera if you can get past the snarky commentary directed at the camera.
