3 1/2, a very fun and nicely written tale, loved the main character and the atmosphere and all the rest of the people in the story were also what it should be and quite enjoyable.
Not so much a detective-story mystery as an atmospheric historical story with mysterious elements. The villain of the story was immediately apparent to me, as well as his methods, which was disappointing, but I wasn't quite sure how it would play out and how Rose would get away. I loved the art elements of the story, as with Under the Egg, and Martha was an entertaining narrator.
