I have to say I loved this book and I didn't understand 1/2 of it. There is LOTS of science in it which is way beyond my comprehension. The story of the characters is the half I understood and it was more than enough to keep me reading. If you liked the Martian you will love this!

Terrific book! The present-day plot thread was compelling, with a science teacher-turned astronaut trying to solve lots of mysteries and challenges in space. This is sci fi that's heavy on the science, like his previous book The Martian. The flashbacks were a nice way to provide the background where both the amnesiac protagonist and the reader don't know the full story until the end. And the other main character is just wonderful.
