I read this book on vacation, but it was a difficult book for me to finish. Thematically - the relationship between father and son is one that would draw me to a book - but the nature of this one had the opposite effect. The writing style was not to my taste - things moved along so slowly. I was interested in the history of Argentina depicted, even though it was terrifying. Not a bad book, just not to my taste.

A father (Juan) and son (Gaspar) go on a road trip to spread their mother's ashes, who recently died in a car accident. His family is insistent they stop to see them. The trip is arduous due to Juan's heart condition. Furthermore, there are hints that all is not what it seems. Juan is actually a medium. He can summon the dark forces of hell on command. An epic literary horror novel set in Argentina. It starts slowly but picks up pace. Well worth the journey.
