Jandy Nelson's debut novel The Sky Is Everywhere was beautiful and devastating, and I waited anxiously for I'll Give You the Sun. I was excited to read it just by seeing the gorgeous cover, but it did take a while to get into. I didn't care much for Noah's POV, which made this novel lose a star, but I loved Jude's chapters. You have to be in the right mood for this book.

All of the characters are artists and talk like artists with grand gestures and big emotions and oh so much drama. Everyone is kissing the wrong person, not talking with anyone else, and feeling very guilty.

That said, still giving it five stars. The emotions in this book feel real. It's beautifully written, the characters are nuanced, and it's interesting.

Well-written, but a bit self-indulgent for my taste. I have little patience for superstition and florid descriptions of weird fantastic things that are probably not actually happening but are there for artistic effect.
