I read this book mostly because one of my friends recently became obsessed with it. And I do think I can see how someone can get obsessed with it...it's a really impressive masterwork: an eleven-hundred-page write-up of a whole philosophy of building places from the scale of cities to the scale of rooms, in the form of 253 short descriptions of architectural and planning principles that the authors believe to be universal.
