So I cried about 5 times but at least 1 of those times were happy ones.

"Man cannot grieve as dogs do. But we grieve for many years."
This is definitely the saddest fantasy book I have ever read. I actually shed tears. It was so melancholicly well-written. I like the writings more than the characters, as they are pretty much representing most of the fantasy tropes and clichés. I would not mind marrying Verity though. He rocks my socks.

I have read this book (and series) many times, but this is the first time I listened to the audiobook.
The narrator's voices were just okay, and the Fool's voice especially was nowhere near my imagining, but he did a great job with the story--and since the book is largely Fitz's narration in his head, it worked out fine.

I enjoyed reading the book and finished it very quickly. It is well-written, with an interesting premise and a lot of intrigue. I like the characters and enjoy the story telling from Fitz' perspective.

So glad i decided to reread this series. I had forgotten how much i loved. Poor Fitz. He's constantly being tossed around without a care from those who should love him for who he is. His grandfather, Burrich who is his caretaker and defacto father, his uncles. I'm glad that he starts to find his place in this story.

I wonder if anyone else is seeing the resemblance to Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun.
Not in terms of content, but of how the story is told. It's fascinating. I had given up on the hope of finding fantasy like this, I mean one where things aren't explained but treated as if the writer is writing for someone in their own world, and so has no need to explain what things are. In fact, I was surprised to find this exact issue brought up in a conversation in the second volume of the trilogy when one ...more

Engaging enough. But it lacked that extra something to make it stand out I'll definitely finish out the series.
