What Members Thought

1st read 4/2018
Continue from book 1. At first I was going to rate 4 🌟 due to the first 190 pages of Jardir story which was slow burning. But as time went on I understood why his story must been told.
Still I couldn't wait to read more about Arlen, Leesha and Rojer. They've grown as characters. Especially Leesha she speaks up for herself more. As a herb gather she's caught the eye of Jardir as he wants wives and be The Deliver for all to kneel before him.

While I found the Warded Man overly simplistic and with too little drama and conflicts too shallow, this sequel is much improved. After the simply childhood stories of the main characters this book introduces their human opponent with as much detail. From there on the drama unfolds.

I remember on my first read of this series feeling very disoriented with the first third of this book. Why are we getting Jardir's backstory? Go back to Arlen, and Leesha, and Rojer! Then after that, it jumps into Rena. Why? The back-and-forth and backstory drop was deeply dissatisfying when all I wanted was to go back to the characters I loved from book 1. In addition to that, the weaponized sex continues tenfold, for multiple side characters and more main characters.

I loved The Warded Man and his part of this book still kicked ass. I however did not like the other story line. I appreciated that he tried to do something different but it just didn't float my boat. I am hoping the next one bounces back for me.
