I really enjoyed this spinoff. I do think folks'd be better off starting with Brimstone Bound for more worldbuilding context, but the story itself is fine without it. Devereaux Webb is an interesting side character so far in Firebrand, and this does a great job of making him relatable as well. One of the best ways to reform a criminal character is to set them up to protect a child--we get a smidge of this in Firebrand and are getting more in Wolfbrand. This was a fun read. Even if this is the first book in this series, it is a continuation from a different series and should start from that. I really liked the brash character, Devereaux, and the fast-paced nature of this book. It also had the procedural elements I like in my mysteries. I am not a fan of the potential romance with Scarlett though. I didn't like her from the other books and while she grew on me in this one, I am still not a fan. ...more
