What Members Thought

Stephen Graham Jones has different type of prose. I really loved the way he told a story. Not a scream type of thriller, but a more personal one. I could relate to the characters and the era of the story. 1989 man! Great times. The story starts off with a lyric from Mötley Crüe, and the song "Home Sweet Home" stuck in my head the whole time. It gave it a great atmosphere from the get go.

As someone who never really got the appeal of slashers and only occasionally watched ones like Scream, I had put off reading this book even though I already knew that Stephen Graham Jones was an auto-buy author for me. There's just a humor and a really character-driven quality to his horror that I've loved since I picked up The Only Good Indians. And honestly, I Was a Teenage Slasher might be one of my favorites from him because of those strengths.

This is not a genre I would normally pick up, but it was on so many lists that I had to try it. I am SO glad I read it. This book has such heart! Who'd a thunk I'd be rooting for the killer?
