I read some reviews on goodreads before finishing this book and was able to sort of figure out what was going on, so the ending wasn't a complete surprise to me. And there were enough clues along the way that I might have figured it out anyway. I thought it was a bit contrived, even though I live for surprise endings in books and movies. I was never a fan of The Great Gatsby, so the possibility of it being made into a true story that some of these people really experienced annoyed me. But still

I really enjoyed the pace of this book. I had just read The Great Gatsby for our library's Big Read program, but didn't really connect to the characters. I was uncertain how will I would like these two books tied together, but I did enjoy this. All the characters from Gatsby are explained so a reader will be okay if they have not read or haven't read Gatsby in a long time. In The Double Bind you do care about the characters and want to see what happens with Laurel.

This book was so bad i felt the need to create a terrible shelf to put it on. Not only was the editing horrid, the storyline was boring and easily figured out. Worst book I have read in awhile
a good mystery, with great writing..
I read this for my Goodreads book group after having given up on Bohjalian, and I wish I hadn't bothered. He wrote some really good books early on, but my experiences of late are much less than 5 star! The tie to the Jay Gatsby family is confusing, and the conclusion is even more so. I am following the discussion online for enlightenment, but so far none is forthcoming???? Cannot recommend; I am being generous giving it 3 stars!!!!
