3.5 German WWII historical fiction stars

I really wanted to love this one as I see so many other Goodreads Friends gave it 4 and 5 stars. Maybe it just wasn't the right timing for me.

This tale is the story of Magda Ritter, a young German woman who becomes a food taster for Hitler. With a fear of being poisoned, Hitler employed dozens of women who tasted his food prior to it being delivered to him.

This was an insider's view of life during WWII in close proximity to Hitler. Magda has several encoun

Just got this from the library on Overdrive. I was intrigued by the idea of this book - a fresh look at Nazi Germany through the eyes of one of Hitler’s tasters. Magda’s job in the Reich is to make sure that Hitler’s food has not been poisoned. It seems well researched and, except for the lucky escapes and serendipitous meetings, accurate. It is well written, and I found myse ...more

Magda Ritter is a 25 year old German citizen during WW2. As the tables begin to turn for Germany and the Allied Forces apply pressure on two fronts, she is pushed into service - as is expected of all able-bodied Germans. She is placed as one of Hitler's food tasters at a couple of his retreats. Hitler has always been concerned with being poisoned so he employs 15 young women to taste every dish prepared for him.
I am setting this book aside after 200+ pages. I am finding the story far-fetched an
