The historical fiction aspect is a bit of a departure from Jojo Moyes' usual fare, but the romance and female relationships fit right in with what I expect from her. I enjoyed Moyes' Me Before You trilogy even though it had more romance than I usually like. This was just a bit lower on the enjoyment scale for me mostly due to the ending being so tidy. 5 Purple stars. A feel-good, happy-ending book about strong and unconventional women. I liked it a lot. Having said that, I probably should have given it a lower rating, because it borders on fluff rather than substance, there are historical inaccuracies, and the plot is resolved much too conveniently. There were a number of plot points that defied credulity, and many of the characters felt like cliches. But I liked it. My last book of 2019 took me awhile to get into, but it really held lots of twists and turns. Ultimately, I enjoyed this tale of tribulation and women taking care of women.
