Migrations for me was a book that was all over the place and I didn't find the story plausible or entertaining. I didn't find it suspenseful or atmospheric, more a confusing and disjointed read.
I had such high hopes for Migrations that I even ordered my copy in hardback and waited 4 weeks for it to arrive, due to Brexit. Unfortunately I didn't enjoy the reading experience hence my 2 star rating. An ok read but not one I can recommend.

I could not get into this at all. Too schmaltzy, too overdramatized, too melodramatic are the words I would use to describe the story.
There isn’t a smidgen of credibility in this book.
The book makes itself out to be about climate change, global warming, destruction of natural habitats, extinction of species and man’s responsibility for the damages incurred. In reality, it is more about a psychologically disturbed woman! Franny is her name.

Haunting, emotionally captivating, fierce, gorgeous, extraordinary. This book will definitely be one of my favorites this year, if not the absolute favorite.
Franny has a wanderlust and quite an adventurous streak, unlike me. So it serves me well to read books like this occasionally. Many will find this fascinating as we step a bit into the future to learn that most birds, fish, and trees are gone, and all of the wolves and coyotes. Set in the near future, when habitat loss, over fishing and hunting, climate change have caused the extinction of much wild life, a young woman with a troubled past boards a fishing boat in the Artic with the intent of tracking what might be the last migration of the Arctic Turn to the bottom of the world. This book is told in interwoven time lines, slowly revealing the protagonist’s personal history to the reader. Although this novel easily kept my attention, I did not love it as much as most r

This was a pretty haunting reading experience. Much is withheld and slowly revealed throughout the book through flashbacks. Not my favorite structure, but there are good character-driven reasons for the hidden information so it didn't bother me too much. Plus the reveals are fairly predictable and the plot clips along. There's some disbelief to suspend - but the decision to place the novel in a very near possible future where climate change is running its course helps.

Without a doubt, I have missed the overarching theme/symbolism within this book, but the story it tells captured me. The end holds devastating scenes, and I'm glad I didn't give up on this quiet little book.
