What Members Thought

This book took a hit from my having to take a break in the middle...I couldn't remember any of their names, although I could figure out who was who through context. Also, I didn't like that there weren't any connecting footnotes that I could go to, they were just all at the back.
...more

Overall I enjoyed this book about women who stepped out of their stereotypical roles during the Civil War. I knew there were women that pretended to be men to fight in the war, but I had no idea there were 400 of them. This book only focused on one Emma. Rose, Elizabeth, and Belle were spies. Two were Union and two were Confederate. I think Ms. Abbott did a good job in the research and keeping them real - there were things I loved and did not like about each lady.

I just could not keep everyone straight in this book. Good story, I guess, about brave, strong women who laid their lives on the line getting information back to their prospective officers.
Sorry, Erica, my daughter who loved this book! She is never wrong so on that I would recommend it to those younger than I am or who have better memories!
