Just to be clear I am not judging or rating this book on the horrific happenings or the cruelty that took place within this family and I cannot imagine what it would be like to grow up in a home with fear and violence part of every day life or with parents like the Knoteks. My rating reflects how the book came across to me as a reader who had never heard of this family or what took place within the household. We all react differently to books and this is just my reaction

3.5. What a horrific human being their mother is. The fact that she is out of prison and walks among us is disgusting. Hard to read.
"If you tell" is a dark, horrible and disturbing tale of abuse, the worst part being that it is a non fiction story.
The book, however, is just so poorly written that it is very hard to keep on reading, the time line is off, the descriptions super repetitive. I wonder if there was no editor to this novel? So many pages with the same wording, so many repeated paragraphs. I just kept going hoping to find out the reason for the parent's abuse and the psychology behind their behaviors, but that does ...more

Tragic
I had a hard time remembering this was a true story becauseof how screwy the truth was. Only the fist person narration kept reminding me this was different than my usual reads. .
