This author tells an admirable tale of life in the Midwest, its food and its people. Midwesterners from my generation remember fondly the many supper clubs spread throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota (and now realize how unhealthy the meals were!). Stradal focuses mostly on females that make up a community, and does such a great job you'd think you were reading an actual female perspective.

This was a multi-generational story, with four generations floating through this book. It all centered around a supper club that was in the family for almost a century and how each generation liked, disliked, cared for or rejected their role in it.
