While it did take awhile for this book to grab me, once it did I finally started to care about what happens to all the characters. The bits of magic annoyed me at first, as did Josie's personality, but then I became accustomed to it all and actually did enjoy how the story turned out. Thanks for recommending it, Cindy! ...more

This is a sweet romance. I had a hard time getting into this book the first chapter or two, but fell in love with it. I really enjoyed the characters of Josey and Chloe. Main message of this book is to follow your dreams. You're subconscious will lead to where you need to go, and it is never too late to make changes. Very quick read, and a nice escape. ...more

I first read Sarah Addison Allen's Garden Spells and really liked it. So, I knew I would read The Sugar Queen. The stories are completely different but the books are similar in that the first half also started out a little slow for me, but the second half picked up. Also, like Garden Spells, this book had elements of magic in it and the ending tied everything up like a tv-sitcom (but in a good way), nice and neat.
