When Officer John Calvino was 14, a deranged serial killer murdered and tortured every member of his family, he being the only one to survive. His was the fourth and final family brutalized by this maniac, young John shooting the murderer. Now, 20 years later, families are again being savagely killed in a pattern eerily similar to those long ago crimes and John knows that his wife and children are the ultimate target. I am not a fan of the horror genre and while I understand from others who read it that it's mostly just supernatural and strange, I know from my personal experience that it's better not to read things that are going to give me nightmares. This was my first Koontz read, and I can't even believe that somehow I haven't read one before now. I'm a little disappointed in myself....

Well, I love Koontz early work. All his recent stuff though I don't care for at all. He is suddenly trying to make a huge point in each book. I just don't like it. It isn't really horror anymore either.

I couldn't get into this book, couldn't make myself want to finish it.

Not bad. I woulda liked it better if it cut down on some of the kid talk. Wasnt too believable at times. I enjoyed the backstories of all the characters. Imaginative. Felt like a made for tv movie script. Which was both charming and sometimes eyerolling.
