What Members Thought

A family attacked in the middle of the night, three dead, one barely alive. Who would do such a terrible thing and why. I think this has been my favorite in the Dublin Murder Squad series so far. Although there was still ample character development, I felt that it was less of a focus than in the prior novels. I also did not guess the resolution to the investigation prior to its reveal as I had in the earlier books.

So many crazy people in this book, in need of some serious counseling. Having just read The Burgess Boys too, the sibling dynamic between Mick (Scorcher) and his sisters reminded me of the similar history of The B. Boys’ dad’s tragic death haunting those kids forever. In Broken Harbor, Mom commits suicide when the 3 kids are young -- the youngest probably witnessed it and/or was meant to be a part of it. Mick has a memory of that day too, which isn’t revealed until the end.

Tana French remains true-to-form her latest Dublin Murder Squad offering. French is well-known for crafting page-turners, and Broken Harbour has a fast-moving, compelling storyline that has enough twists and turns to keep things interesting. What I enjoy about French most, however, her ability to create sympathetic characters out of the darkest and most dysfunctional of individuals. Broken Harbour's protagonist Scorcher Kennedy is no exception, and how he works out his own baggage during the cou

Good solid book. I was interested in the story and the characters and kept making guesses as to who did what...the sign of a good mystery. The writing was easy and descriptive without being tedious. The only thing stopping me from a 3.5 rating is the end. I felt like I was left wondering what happened to many of the characters. The reader is led to believe a certain outcome will happen so I guess that's enough for some readers.
