Ok I am new to Good Reads and this is my first review. I had to do my first one for The Hunger Games because it really was the catalyst that started me reading again. I initially heard about the book when I saw the teaser trailer for the movie. If you don't remember the first set of teaser trailers then I'll remind you that it was pretty sparse. It had someone running through the forest ,fire and then finally a emblem of a bird on fire. It intrigued me but I did nothing about it. Then , while aw

I never thought I would like The Hunger Games when I heard people talk about it. The plot sounded a bit bizarre. But when I saw the movie and liked it, I decided to give the book a try.
The world building was great, it all actually felt really believable. I got a bit bored before the game started, but then it was fast paced and hard to put it down. I didn't really like the main character Katniss, she was so serious all the time and often quite rude to others. And the way she acted with the whole ...more

I give kudos to Suzanne Collins for having the guts to write about children in a fight to the death. It's not an easy thing to write or read about. However, I thought that Collins did it in a way that made you forget they were children when the violent scenes were written. Through Katniss' behaviour and thoughts, her naivety makes you remember how young they all are.

I am pretty 50/50 when it comes to dystopian novels, unfortunately for me I have seen the movie beforehand and that kinda ruined the experience for me. It felt a little slow and there were so many small details that were changed for the movie it kinda made the book frustrating for me. Sigh.
However, all that said I am really glad these books were made because I actually really do enjoy the story and I am glad they got made into movies. So koodos to Suzanne Collins.

Still loved it
This was, I believe my third read though, and I still enjoyed it as much as the first time. While I am getting tired of dystopian books without a twist to them I think this one is standing the test of time so far. It's one I would still recommend to a late middle school or young adult reader as a good book to read. ...more
