3.5 stars. Very enjoyable and straightforward. Looking forward to more complex Sherlock/Watson adventures, though. Also, many people didn’t like reading about the Wild West Mormon bit but I found it to be super suspenseful! Maybe there was an extra layer of tension for me because I actually escaped from a cult when I was younger so yah there’s that.

I've forever been fascinated by the legacy of Sherlock Holmes; mainly through television and film. This was my first time actually reading one of the books, and it was as mystifying as I thought it would be. The characters of Holmes and Watson are brilliant and in stark contrast to the bumbling efforts of Gregson and Lestrade. My only gripe was that, while it was great to look at how Holmes solved it and the story behind the mystery, there was no clues if pointers for readers to work it out. I g ...more
