Read for Austin Computer Book Club, this was an interesting collection of 97 short essays on all aspects of programming: techniques, tools, principles, career advice, etc. The breadth, variety, and shortness of the pieces – each one took more or less two facing pages – were both the strength and weakness of the work. I appreciated the bite-sized bits of wisdom and different viewpoints, but also felt it was somewhat less engaging than a comprehensive work by a single author. There was still lots ...more
