I guess I wouldn't have rated this book 4 stars if there wasn't this incredible twist in the end of the book, totally unexpected ( at least for me ).

It was a fun reading, the story was well written in a way that I couldn't get bored, I am not a huge fan of the characters though, they just didn't stick with me, they weren't bad at all, but Nora was kind of courageous but at the same time dumb, her plans that could've been so well elaborated were sorta lame. I actually don't know what to think about this book because I found some part really good and others quite cringy I don't know how to explain that
The story isn't the most original one it's the classical urban fantasy thing where the normal girl meet this really handsome and quite surnatural guy but it was still a fun and quite good read Nora was a main character who have great potential in following books and Patch is this kind of swoon worthy but still really annoying and I must say a bit obse ...more

I was actually quite enjoying it until the 45% mark, when I realised nothing had happened so far except several disturbing incidents of creepiness suspected to involve the love interest. I know Booktok has wild ideas about “stalker romances” but I can’t get on board with them. And having read this years ago, I know the love interest is not the stalker. But if I was the main character and I suspe Unfortunately, despite loving this book as a teenager, I had to DNF it, after pushing through to 66%. I was actually quite enjoying it until the 45% mark, when I realised nothing had happened so far except several disturbing incidents of creepiness suspected to involve the love interest. I know Booktok has wild ideas about “stalker romances” but I can’t get on board with them. And having read this years ago, I know the love interest is not the stalker. But if I was the main character and I suspected someone of stalking me, I would not be romantically inclined towards them at all. It repeatedly occurred to me throughout this that the main character was acting like the idiots in horror movies that go into the scary house and you’re thinking “why? Turn around and get out of there!” Except she keeps willingly walking into dangerous situations. And then at around 55% or so her “best friend” went off the deep end and started defending a new guy who had actually been violent towards the main character, but who was the friend of her boyfriend. And instead tries to warn her off the love interest. And gets the FMC into MORE dangerous situations. Even the mystery of the stalker can’t save this one for me. (No, I don’t remember who it is. I’ll google a plot summary.)

And yes, I feel qualified to rate it considering I went through 66% of this. And actually quite enjoyed most of it. The writing was suitably atmospheric and the fog and cosy farmhouse were nice vibes to read about. I already have the sequel on kindle (original plan was to re read that one and finally finish the series) but I thought I’d read book 1 first to re-introduce myself…bad idea!

Oh, and I felt increasingly uncomfortable with the subtle fat shaming of the housekeeper - “the flesh on her arms jiggled” etc, and the early 2000s insults such as “freak, slut, fat” and my personal favourite “anorexic pig.” Spoken by the main character, no less. I really want to root for her! (Sarcasm).

Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick deserves a solid 5 star rating! Just the prologue is intense enough to make me want to read the book in one sitting. I have heard nothing but great things about the Hush, Hush series from my library patrons. Nora and Vee are best friends in their sophomore year of high school.
