Seguleh.
Need I say more?
So. Much. Seguleh.
Also, we get some more Moranth secrets. Not a lot, but some.
These aspects are worth it alone to read this book, but otherwise I really enjoyed it still. We get a glimpse inside the actual workings of the Seguleh system here. I have to say, they're one of my favorite races in Malazan especially with their hierarchy, marked on the masks they wear, of martial prowess. While not perfect, ICE does an admirable job filling parts of the Malazan series that SE didn't have room for. This novel picks up after Toll of the Hounds and focuses on Darujistan and the remnants of Moon's Spawn. Moranth and Seguleh and Tyrants, throw in a little Kruppe and I am a happy man. Looking forward to the next installment to the Malazan universe.

There is some great Malazan lore here; a statement that damns with faint praise.
For me the ICE books are something like what happens where a TV chef and I follow the same recipe; the ingredients are the same but some subtle points of execution result in a massive difference in output.
Good, but nowhere near great.

An excellent entry in the Malazan saga from Esslemont. Focused on the battle for Darujhistan following Toll the Hounds, Orb Sceptre Throne moves at a rollicking pace and pulls together a host of past characters for an enjoyable read.
