I remember trying to read this when I was a really little girl and could not get into it. When I got older and saw the book on my shelf I thought I would give it another try and I'm so glad I did! I loved this book and remember that I could not put it down! Being stuck in a car for 12 hours might be part of that, but it really was a page turner. I used to love this movie when I was little, but I'd never read the book - I dont think I even knew there was one. It was kind of surprising, because the movie covers only about the first third of the book, so the rest was all new to me.

Bastian is a good character, even though (or maybe because) I could not stand him around the middle of the book - it made his character development much more meaningful in the end. I liked the diverse types of characters, and how all the little adventures he had ...more
