Unusual to publish the prequel novella before the main series, but this serves as a wonderful taster. It's dark, dark fantasy - perhaps turning a little too dark towards the end with some real-life inspired horrible treatment of children.
While only teasing the fantastical world-building - giants? Dead gods? - the setting is used here as a backdrop to a murder mystery.
