Mmhh. I'm a bit conflicted. Like, I enjoyed it, I think it was good, but I don't think it was as amazingly perfect as some others say.
I admit the writing was engaging, but it was also soooooooo bogged down with similes.
The characters were interesting, and so were their relationships. I think that was the most interesting part of the book.

I had a love/hate relationship with this book.
Lydia is a young teen who is found dead in a local lake. The story is about family history and the mystery of how she got there. I liked the way the story was told. It went back and forth in time and by the point of view.
Lydia's mom, Marilyn, is very hard on Lydia. Lydia wants to please her mom and she loses her identity in trying to please her mom. Her dad, James, wants her to have lots of friends and be with the "in" crowd since he was never able ...more

There are certain books that grab you by the shoulders, twist you around to look at something, shake you, and go, "LOOK AT IT." Then there are those that walk beside you, pointing out little facts of the day - the sun is out. there are five pairs of shoes by the door. there is a white footprint against the cream ceiling. I'm still digesting this book. On the surface, it's a sad story. But, it was interesting to see the Lee family fall apart because the link holding them together breaks. Then, watching as they figure out how to put the pieces back together. Makes one wonder, what would I do?
