I can clearly see the style of Geraldine Brooks, as this book remind me so much of the time I read Year of Wonders. I'm becoming a big fan of her historical fiction novels, and I have to say that I think overall the format of this book is so clever and juicy. I love how she used a simple common thread in the Haggadah Jewish book to link so many stories.

Hanna Heath is an Australian rare book expert and she is offered the opportunity to study the renowned Sarajevo Haggadah, an ancient Jewish book that has survived through the most remarkable of times. As Hanna uncovers bits and pieces of the book's history, the reader is transported back in time to the eras where these artifacts originated.

Read this for book club. Interesting to see how the author wove the whole story together.

I really enjoyed the book. It is a fascinating tale. I didn't know much/anything about Sarajevo so this was a welcome introduction. So... if I liked it, why so few stars. It was just too depressing. Why has the world hates Jews for hundreds of years? It was just too depressing. Plus, I was reading it on my birthday so that didn't help. I would certainly read another book by her.

Really enjoyed this book, and it was my first Brooks novel. I especially found the stories set back in various places/times fascinating. The book felt more one of short stories with an overarching narrative that tied them all together very nicely. If you are a historical fiction fan this is the book for you.

I can't decide if I like this book or not. Parts of it were very interesting, while other parts seemed to drag on. It was an interesting premise (following the book's travels via "clues" found in the book itself), but I just got bored during some of its 'travels'.

This is my kind of historical fiction! I found the story, for the most part, believable! It's interesting how the author wove the story together! The parts I didn't like were the 'present' with Hanna Heath and the relationship she had with her mom.

A really interesting story. One of the better books I've read recently.
