Slumdog Millionaire is about a street boy who made it rich by answering questions to a game show via answers from his life circumstance. Although entertaining by its own right, it does not compare with the movie in its likeability factor for the main character and coherence of which the story is being told. Very VERY different from the movie. Even the main character was a totally different name.

I believe this book was way better than the movie.

I really enjoyed this little book. The story follows the reason that Ram Muhammad Thomas is able to answer all of the questions on an Indian quiz show. The highly unlikely hero is an orphan who has made his own way in the world with no formal schooling. A vivid portrait of life in India for such a child.
I haven't seen the movie yet but am anxious to see it.

This was a fantastic romp through the underworld of poverty in modern-day india. the book is structured as a series of stories that merit stand-alone cred, with a fantastic central theme. well-written, engaging, incredible, with fascinating characters. definitely recommended!

Excellent. It threw me off a little that it was so different from the movie. Really there were only one or two specific plot details that were the same, but I really loved it. I was rooting for him the whole time, and it was never ever dull.

Near-magical coincidences in the horrific life of an impoverished orphan make it possible for him to win fame, fortune, and the girl in this modern fairy tale.

After reading this, I want know more about the real India.

Some of the stories dragged for me but overall by the end it came together. I can see how it would be a good movie and look forward to seeing it now that I have read the book.
