Bolak-balik gue liat Mika, terus gue pegang tangannya, ciumin pipinya. Sambil ‘mewek-mewek’ dikit.. Hihihi… Isi cerita novel ini sanggup menguras air mata. Membayangkan betapa sedihnya berpisah dengan orang-orang yang d

I only give it three stars because it is just such a sad topic (holocaust) with a typically sad ending. I would equate it to Schindler's List. Sure, it is supposed to be about the survivor, but I can't stop obsessing about all the devastation. It is beautifully written and tells an interesting story that was new to me (Velodrome d' Hiver). I would recommend to anyone with a tougher constitution than myself.

This book was good but definitely hard to take-not that most books on the Holocaust aren't but this one focused more on kids which is what made it harder for me. The book focuses on a lesser known aspect of the Holocaust that took place in France-a round up of thousands of Jewish families at the request of the German government. Beautiful, sad story of two families tied together by the Vel' d'Hive Roundup in 1942. Engrossing - read in a single night.

First read 2008, listened to audiobook 2024. Just as beautiful a story as I remembered. The audio was interesting, with French pronunciations and a French accent of the story in English. But the demarcations in the text between the 2 timelines were a little jarring on audio, so I actually preferred the written text so I was better prepared mentally for the flashbacks.Still 5 stars.

I thought this book would make me sad.... but it didn't.. it made me angry.. and hurt. This book was a work of fiction.. but it could have been true.. and it told of true events.. and made observations of the way humans are.. and were.
Sarah and julia were some of the strongest women ive read about in a very long time. I could only wish to be as strong as either of them. ...more

This was a very fast read with an compelling (but heartbreaking) storyline. I learned a lot about aspects of World War II and France that I wasn't aware of. I look forward to the author's next book.
