Decent, well-researched first novel about a town quarantined during the Black Plague. The heroine, widow Anna, is seemingly immune and cares for the dying and their families alongside the minister and his wife. The far-fetched ending (what happens to Anna after the plague ends) was unnecessary and a turn-off, but the rest of the story was impressive and engaging.

Interesting...especially when finding out that this was the author's first novel. I liked the history woven into the story. Also, the main character's love of reading and learning was inspiring--

I found this book very interesting. It was the first novel I have read about the Plague and found myself totally engrossed in the story. I would have given it 5 stars, but the end didn't seem to flow with the rest of the story. It's almost as if a different author took over and wrote the last 40 pages or so. Not that the end was bad...it just didn't seem to fit the rest of the story. I definitely recommend reading this!

I really liked this book. It was a fascinating look into a really different life and I LOVED the main character. My only disappointment was that I was then excited to read the other books she has written but I was warned that they are so different that I might not like them. So... I haven't tried. I thought I would take a break between reading her.
