LOVED this book! I was drawn in immediately and was sad to finish it. I wish there were a way to give it 4.5 stars!

I really, really enjoyed this book. Narrated by 2 characters, Lavinia who is a white indentured servant and Belle a black slave. The story contains heartbreak after heartbreak but the characters are so well developed that I cried for each one. Oh Mama Mae! I wanted Lavinia to get a backbone but I had to remind myself that it was a different time and back then wives were also considered property. Great first novel for this author!
