I had a hard time putting my thoughts together for this review. On one hand, I love the writing in this book. It was beautiful. There were many sentences and passages that I found exquisite. On the other hand, I found the plot very slow. The jumping back and forth in time was also hard for me to follow. I really enjoyed this book. This is a fictional novel based on the life of a real woman. While walking around New York City on New Year's Eve 1984, the 85 year old main character takes a mental stroll through her long life in the city and through the social changes that occurred over her lifetime. I think one of the things I enjoyed most about the book was the way New York itself is a character in the book. Great book to get lost in!

a decent Covid read, wandering around Manhattan over 60 years or so. you really see the change in what it's like for a woman who works in advertising to start, to raising kids, and getting divorced... Well written.
