I had a hard time putting my thoughts together for this review. On one hand, I love the writing in this book. It was beautiful. There were many sentences and passages that I found exquisite. I really enjoyed this book. This is a fictional novel based on the life of a real woman. While walking around New York City on New Year's Eve 1984, the 85 year old main character takes a mental stroll through her long life in the city and through the social changes that occurred over her lifetime. I liked the premise of the story and how the woman was 86 and single. However the recollection of her memories is written in a bit more poetic way that I found it difficult to keep my mind from straying. I really enjoyed the conversations in present day (new years eve 1984).
