This book was so unexpected and it gutted me. It was the perfect book for transitioning seasons as the atmospheric detail is a whole character in this novel. Taking place in Iceland in the early 1800's you are transported to villages of hard, desperate living and how your upbringing, your intelligence, your looks, and your need to belong can drastically change the course of your life. A sad, yet uplifting story of a woman's search. She searched her whole life for attachments and connections and finds them in death. I wasn't sure I would like it or want to read it but found it was difficult to put down. Recommended.
