2020 Reread: This was just as incredible the second time around! The writing is lyrical and immersive, it's the perfect cozy read when it's cold outside.

I didn't really like this. If I'd been reading it instead of listening to it on audiobook I would have dnfed. The writing wasn't my style and I found myself bored with the story. I didn't feel that I connected with any of the characters. Didn't seem to care about what happened to them.
I might listen to the second book to see what happens but I'm on the fence about that. ...more

So beautiful and so much to love! Folklore and Russian winters. Snowdrops and beautiful horses. A brave girl who is as wild as they come. One of my favorites of this year. Can’t wait to continue this series.

I had to keep reminding myself that it relied heavily on Russian folklore, as there are very dark themes and the battle between good and evil was quite violent, and often disturbing. But, it was the description of the Russian landscape, customs, and folklore that made the book so enjoyable for me. Each chapter left me wanting to know what would happen next and I really loved the heroine. She is quite the balance of strength, bravery, kindness, and love

An interesting story and one I've never heard of before. It dragged a bit in places and I found myself getting bored and really having to refocus. I will read the next book.
