Walls' book makes an excellent case for requiring people to pass a test before they become parents. I have rarely seen the level of immaturity displayed by Walls' parents, and I teach high school freshmen.
I don't know if it's me or the writing, but I was just not into this book at all. I kept reading, of course, because that's what I do, but I was rarely engaged. I almost hate to say this, given the subject matter, but ... it was actually kind of boring.

After reading Half Broke Horses with my in-person book group, I knew I'd have to read The Glass Castle. Although there were multiple scenes that were hard to read, this story was very well written. There were moments that were laugh out loud funny, and moments so unfathomable I was almost in disbelief; this story will stick with me for quite some time.
