4.5 Cora is talked into escaping slavery by another young man on her plantation. The escape of her mother looms over her. In order to escape, they use the underground railroad, which in Whitehead's novel, is an actual railroad. This story is raw and heartbreaking. His characterizations are great-I especially despised the slave catcher, Ridgeway, who makes it his life's work to capture Cora.
