Compelling and beautifully written, with deep things to say about the nature of life - how we are shaped and defined by our memories of experiences as much as the events themselves. Bleak, but not hopeless, just matter of fact. It's impressionistic and circular and I really wasn't sure at first, but once I was able to sort out the characters, I was pretty quickly all-in, even as it quietly kind of broke my heart.
I'll definitely be seeking out more by Szabo. ...more
