As always, Neil Gaiman enchants!
I took this short story as an idea of the things that might happen in those moments of life that you forget about. Once in a while they come back to you and you may think, "Wow, I forgot that happened!" Well, this is a magical idea of what happens in those moments (and to those moments).
The story made me think of times long past when neighbors brought you in for lunch or lemonade, and when the most fun you could have was with your nose stuck in a book or running ...more

The words in this novel are beautiful. The imagery is fantastical and full of magic. I have to be honest, I was lost for most of the story but I quite enjoyed that. Being in a state like that made everything feel dream-like and surreal and I think that was the purpose of the book. Memories can be sharp and distinct but often are blurry, hazy, and maybe not entirely truthful. A man returns to his hometown for a funeral. He finds himself driving down a lane to ultimately relive some frightening memories from his childhood. The memories are magical and mystical in nature.
IMO this book did not live up to the hype. My local library was suggesting it as the Gone Girl for this summer. I should have taken my hint from the fact that I didn't like Gone Girl and not even have bothered. ...more
