Neil Gaiman wrote this fable for Amanda Palmer who asked to be told more about a childhood incident of his. He says he added a couple of elements. . . . .The magic is real enough: portals/doors, glamour/shapeshifting, perception/re-percepection/moments of clarity. Young women are oceanic in nature. A man returns to his hometown for a funeral. He finds himself driving down a lane to ultimately relive some frightening memories from his childhood. The memories are magical and mystical in nature.
