Mae has landed her dream job at Google. Sorry, Amazon. Sorry, Apple. Sorry, Facebook. DAMN IT. I meant to say The Circle, the largest tech company in the world, connecting its members in every. way. possible. This book came out before Facebook's privacy leak but hmm! I dropped Facebook in August 2018 and I've never felt better. I never joined Twitter or Instagram or even Snapchat. Goodreads is my "social media." So, Amazon. lol.

In response to people being suspicious and saying Google/Amazon is watching/listening to you I've always said well I don't care, I have nothing to hide. But the level of lack of privacy and information overload and "transparency" in this book was horrifying. Creepy. Eerie. Alarming. Everything on the cloud for all to search through. EVERY. THING.

(view spoiler) There was not a whole lot to actually enjoy in the book, it's kind of terrifying but the book was okay. I didn't like that there were no chapters, just broken up between Book 1 and Book 2. It was hard to find a stopping point, even in the audiobook! I also wasn't crazy about the narrator but sometimes he sounded like Bill Hader and sometimes like Jim Gaffigan. lol. And why a male narrator for a female POV book?

OH. One thing that bothered me was Mae's "experiences" from a male author's POV. No woman would ever think or write (paraphrasing) "it looked like a small campfire log with milk spilled all over it." (in reference to Mae giving someone a handjob.) Or (paraphrasing) "sweat was running in rivulets from her armpits to her waist." Nah, women don't sweat like that, not unless they're exercising vigorously and Mae was not. She was just nervous. Just little oddities that didn't feel like a woman's POV because a man was writing it.

Smile. Frown. Meh. ZING!

I plan on watching the movie this weekend (free on Amazon Prime Video), though it does have a pretty bad IMDb score. But I love Emma Watson! ...more
