This was all kinds of wonderful. A re-awakening, a finding your true self, a punishment for past mistakes, and an exile from grief: all reasons why the author went on this quest. Cheryl Strayed's Wild is wild, untamed, and dark at times. But it also shows humankind and nature in the best way possible - full of kindness, imagination, realness, and love. Potentially book 5/50 of my reading challenge, a memoir. I have loved and admired Cheryl Strayed ever since I stumbled upon her advice column, Dear Sugar, during a low and lost time of my life. Reading more about the woman behind the heart-wrenching advice was beyond captivating. She was and is so open about herself, whether it be her feelings or her faults or anything in between. Wild was alright. I liked the movie more than the book. The book definitely dragged in some parts. It was interesting but we didn't need every. single. little. detail. I would never have the wherewithal to do something like that but I like reading about others doing it! Cheryl definitely needed something like this to push her through her grief and struggle and I think it worked!
