I can't say there weren't parts of this book that I enjoyed. But, from the very beginning I disliked Claire, and I only marginally warmed to her by the end of the book. For a levelheaded combat nurse she seemed awfully dense, and inconsistently pathetic and short-sighted. Reread for the third time during Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon, April 2021.

This is the second read through an 850 page book in under four years. That should give you some clue as to how much I've enjoyed it.
This is in the broadest terms a historical romance, but I think it is better termed a historical (time traveling) fiction with romantic elements. You also have to be willing to be in it for the long haul if you're thinking of picking up this book. The story does not end here. Alth ...more

I'm not sure how many times I've read this. I started reading Outlander before Fiery Cross came out and then re-read each book before the next book came out but I didn't re-read the series again before reading the latest, Written in My Own Heart's Blood. My mom owned the first 3 and I read them when I was about 12 or 13 and just FELL. IN. LOVE. My firstborn daughter (if that ever happens) will be named Claire. I've had my heart set on it since I first read Outlander and my husband is game.
