I wanted to introduce our girls to this story, but I ended up reading an abridged version with them, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, adapted by Will Moses. I wanted to read this one with them, too, but I'm not sure that they'd have the patience for it. I just don't think they are ready for the older idiomatic language and the flowery prose.

B. J. Harrison had one of the first podcasts, Classic Tales, that I subscribed to years ago when I bought my first ipod. I don’t know if it still exists as a podcast, but some of his readings are available from audible. It was the least expensive among more than 40 versions offered by audible. Hmmm. I'm not sure why it took me so long to read this book, but I downloaded for free on my phone and read it in bed during a bout of insomnia. My husband was none to impressed when I roused him from "almost sleep" to tell him that it was really quite wonderful. Maybe I'm a sucker for autumn and Irving sure gives us a great view of old New England Autumn.
