This book is told so simply that it could almost pass for a children's or teen's book. It is the story of the first female detective agency is Africa, and the private dective solves her cases largely though common sense and letting people talk.

A very easy read, but not one I was particularly engaged by.

Upon Julie's recommendation, I listened to the audio book. The narrator does a great job with the accents. An interesting story, but I tend to be easily distracted with audio books and miss a bit. The first couple chapters were slow, but I did like the story. ...more

ive had this book for quite some time but wanted to wait until i had the complete series before i started it. i picked it up for $1 at the bookstore and it was worth way more than that! i started and finished it in a day! i'm not a big fan of mystery novels, but i like how her cases are started and solved in one chapter. its a fast, fun read, and i love the background given on the characters. i fell in love with the main character immediately, and am hoping that her friends stay throughout the s ...more

If I could give 3 1/2 stars I would. This was an easy, unchallenging read. The mysteries weren't very deep (I like more of the Agatha Christie/Sherlock Holmes where the answer is very hard to come by), and there didn't seem to be much of a plot to tie the whole story together (just a bunch of jobs that Ramotsway had to solve).

I might read more in the series, but currently I'm not sure. It was interesting to learn more about Botswana, but I don't think I'll run right out for the next one.

This was an interesting read. I found it hard to get into but in the end I am glad I pushed forward with it. Not sure if I will read more into the series or not, but will definitely consider it.

I want to meet Mma Ramotswe. What a delightful character! I've never had any wanderlust, but this book almost makes me want to go to Botswana. ...more

Don't get the hype. The mystery was good, the character was well developed but too slow to keep me wanting more. ...more
