The penultimate book in this wonderful series is dreadful, as the author promises, but only because it means only one unfortunate book remains. The unfathomable mysteries of The Hotel Denouement slowly unravel in this book as the Baudelaires find themselves once again surrounded by too many villains and not enough volunteers.

The orphans reach the last safe place and must disguise themselves as hotel staff working the concierge desk. The second to last book continues to answer even more questions while still posing more. I don't ever want the series to end.

In this book the kids meet everyone who has helped or hindered them and take off with Count Olaf. Quite a turn of events.
