The most adorable story I've heard for a long time! The cute and courageous mouse and his love! I was absolutely enchanted by this book, and I hope to read it again and again!

This was a very cute little story. Despereaux was a character and a half. I almost don't want to see the movie because I don't want it to mar my memory of the book!

Charming, adorable, and deserving of the Newbery (IMO). I'm always a sucker of clever, snarky narrators that engage the audience with questions and comments.

I enjoyed this book. It was short and sweet. I don't prefer the narration style though. I thought the story had a wonderful lesson though and it is told in a way that is easy for children to grasp. It is also realistic enough to say that the situation was "ridiculous" but sometimes love is ridiculous. It also had a happy ending which all ages can appreciate.

We just read this for the parent/pre-teen book discussion I lead at my library, and we pretty much all loved it. It's a fun book with a few deep themes running throughout it. I really like the way she interwove the 4 story lines and characters. Different, but good.

Really sweet story. I hope they don't mess it up with the movie!
