I liken this book to a pond in which a large rock has been thrown with the resultant waves changing everything they touch. Thus to me seems the fate of all the main characters in this story. I couldn't put this book down. It's a tour-de-force that made me cry several times. There are a few places where the energy lags a bit but the story and the characters were enough to keep me involved. I hope Lamb doesn't take another 10 years to write his next book.

Ahh! 700 pages I should have known but I was so drawn in by the main subject I just had to try. It starts out great, gets bogged down in the middle by history you don't really care about because you aren't that into the characters but more the situation, and the end actually pissed me off quite a bit!
