I chose this book kind of randomly and didn't realize the topic would be so appropriate for right now. I liked this, but ultimately felt something was lacking ... the end felt really rushed, almost like some chapters were missing. The last bit tugged at my heartstrings but boy was it abrupt.

I enjoy the way she writes though and I see that this is a series, so perhaps I just need to continue on with these girls' story.

Our girls' local library book club selected this book for the August discussion. I thought it would be a great summer read and I was so happy to get a chance to read this when I did. The story is a fast read and I was drawn into the tale so intensely that I was sad to see the book end so soon.

I'm not a fan of this one. There is no real connection with the characters especially as they changed, and I can't see their Pa sending his three precious girls to Black Panther central to visit a no-good mom. I read this book as a monthly read for one of my Facebook groups. I found it to be an excellent look of what it was like to be black and young in the late sixties at the beginning of the Black Panther movement.

While a middle-grade book, I found it to be interesting and would suggest it to young and adult alike. Wonderful character, exciting action and some history make this award winning novel a good read.
