This is the first book in the Smile series by Raina Telgemeier. It is an autobiographical story about growing up in the eighties. I could relate to her experiences and I really love the candid way she told her story.
I love how she discovers that she is happier when she is surrounded by friends who encourage her and support her and when she follows her passions. I also love that her crush on Sean was unrequited. It's a common experience and one that I could empathize with.

This is a pretty quick read as it is in graphic novel format. This is for the mother/daughter book club that I am in. My daughter hasn't started this one yet, but I am anxious for her to start. Interjections from the adult Raina help provide perspective for kids wondering if things will ever get better. She g

Fun, fast, and a good recommend to teen girls. Not very deep and the art didn't rock my world, but I think it is a great read for its audience.

Such a wonderful book! This graphic novel tells the story of Raina and her unfortunate accident when she was barely 12. She endured over 4 years of dental surgery and appointments. Plus, she was going through middle school, discovering herself and becoming a teenager entering high school. Raina became one strong girl and I so admire her perseverance through all the changes.
